How to Import Different Tables from One Excel Sheet into Tableau

Users who are accustomed to Excel’s high degree of flexibility often store different types of tables within a single worksheet. While the standard approach for importing such data into Tableau is to separate each table into its own worksheet, you can instead use Excel’s Name Manager feature to bring in specific data ranges without having to split the sheet.

For example, if your data is structured like the following:

You can define named ranges for each distinct area using Formulas > Name Manager in Excel.

These named ranges will then appear as individual tables in Tableau, allowing you to import and use them as if they were on separate sheets.

Furthermore, these named ranges can be treated just like regular sheets in Tableau—meaning you can join, union, or otherwise manipulate them within your data model.
